A 47-year old Yorba Linda woman is facing one felony count for attempted murder and one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury for allegedly hiding in the back seat of her ex-boyfriend’s car and stabbing him with an ice pick, the Los Angeles Times reports. The woman may also have her sentence enhanced if she is found guilty of causing great bodily injury and using a deadly weapon.
The alleged attack occurred on August 30 in which prosecutors are accusing the woman of attacking the man from behind and stabbing him several times in the head and shoulders. Apparently, the victim crashed into a tree while trying to stop the car during the alleged attack. The accused woman is reported to have fled the scene on foot. If she is convicted of the criminal charges being held against her, she could face a maximum sentence of life in state prison.
Being accused of a violent crime in California is undoubtedly a daunting experience. Cases for attempted murder or battery chargers are highly complex, especially when an individual is accused of using a deadly weapon or inflicting bodily injury upon another person. A conviction for Orange County attempted murder, even for an alleged incident that did not cause injury, could lead to a 15 years to life prison sentence. The burden of proof is on the prosecutor in arguing that a person willfully, deliberately, and with premeditated action, attempted to kill another individual.
